MOSCOW, Apr 4 (PRIME) -- Uncut diamond mining giant ALROSA sold U.S. $12.9 million worth of uncut diamonds at an auction held in Russia’s eastern city of Vladivostok, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The auction took place in the Eurasian Diamond Center and involved 22 companies from China, South Korea, India, Europe, Russia and other countries. A total of 461,000 carats of diamonds was sold including 440,000 carats of industrial diamonds worth $4.924 million and 21,000 carats of jewelry diamonds worth $7.98 million. A special office of the excise customs, operating at the auction together with an office of the precious metals and gems repository Gokhran, a vault, a special-purpose carrier and a bank, provided all necessary services.

In 2017, Alrosa plans to sell about 2 million carats of diamonds with an overall cost of $73 million via its Far Eastern unit. An auction on large-size precious gems from 10.8 carats and an auction on industrial grade diamonds will be held in the next three months.
